Student-led social venture · Boston, MA

Good food should feed people. Not landfills.

Feeding Friends rescues safe, unused ingredients from Boston restaurants and turns them into affordable meal kits you cook at home, and sometimes into hot, nutrient-dense meals for neighbors who need them, so everyone can enjoy healthy food without the worry of cost.

Tonight · 9:40 PM

A Brookline kitchen closes with 1.25 lbs it can't sell tomorrow.

Chicken thighs, jasmine rice and prepped vegetables, all safe, all bought before anyone knew Tuesday would be slow. Yesterday that went in the trash.

Food insecurity is more than a missing meal.

We're focused on solving food insecurity by getting super nutritious meals into the hands of people who need them, while connecting food support to nutrition and to the students who want to help.

Hunger is widespread

Many people in our communities face daily food insecurity.

Donations ≠ nutrition

Food donations matter, but meals aren't always connected to nutrition education.

Students want in

Young people want to help, but often don't know how to get involved meaningfully.

How it works

The restaurant packs it. You cook it.

Raw ingredients on a counter

1 · Restaurants list surplus

At close, partner kitchens list the safe, unserved ingredients they bought before they knew Tuesday would be slow.

Sealed meal containers

2 · They pack a meal kit

Portioned into a sealed tray with a label, ingredients, allergens, pack date, cook-by, and a QR recipe card.

Chef cooking over an open flame

3 · You cook it, or we deliver it hot

Pick up your kit down the street. Sponsored meals are cooked by the restaurant and handed out through a community partner.

About us

Feeding Friends was started by students who believe food support should not only provide meals, but also help people understand nutrition, wellness, and healthier eating choices. We rescue quality unused ingredients from restaurants and turn them into affordable meal kits and nutrient-dense meals that people can enjoy without the worry of cost.

We launched inside our founder's family restaurant group, eight Boston locations, fifteen years, which gives us day-one inventory, pickup locations, and people who know how to store food correctly.

From our founder
"I've personally thrown away more food than most people will eat in their lives. That's not a brag. It's a confession, and a business plan. Feeding Friends was started because I wanted people to enjoy quality food without the worry of affordability.", William Huang, Founder
Our solution
